It was unfortunately a child without charms of unpleasant ways, avoided by others, and frankly unpopular teachers.

The three researchers were so disappointed and surprised by what they read.
Disappointed because they missed the opportunity to get rid of unwanted girl and surprised because they realized that she has a great soul, goodness , and themselves no.

How many of us tends to judge people by appearances, although we know that these are misleading.
What's worse is that if appearances do not please us, we mark the person and warn against it and their attitudes.

This means that before you criticize, try and convict a person, we must put ourselves in their place and understand his/her deepest feelings. Those that maybe she wants to hide herself, to protect themselves from the suffering that would cause his/her memory.
